Item A Clinical Report on thePrevalence of Gastro-Intestinal ParasiticInfection in Buffalo of Noakhali, Bangladesh(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal |Sciences University, 2022-11) Akter, TahminaParasite is one of the major obstacles to the way of maximum production in dairy industry of all over the world. This investigation was conducted to measure the prevalence of GI parasites of buffalo in Noakhali, Bangladesh and its associated risk factors (age, sex, nutrition status and deworming history). Total 100 fecal samples were collected from February 2022 to April 2022. A well-structured questionnaire was used to collect the information relevant to the objectives of the study. Then these samples were examined through flotation and sedimentation technique to pick up the positive samples. The overall prevalence found was 56%. About 13 species of parasite were found in these tests, among which 8 nematode, 3 trematode and 2 protozoa were found. The highest amount of egg found was of Toxocara vitulorum, nearly 32%. The calves tested more vulnerable to the helminths infection than young and adult animals. The prevalence was 72.2% in calves, 65.76% in young and 54.48% in adult buffaloes. Also, the males have higher prevalence than the female animals. Male buffaloes were 1.25 times more prone to GI parasitic infection than the female buffaloes. Moreover, the poor health animal also seems to be more prone to infection compared to moderate and good health animal. A significant difference was noticed in the prevalence of GI parasite in poor health and good health buffaloes. Recently it is an issue to be concerned that one in 59 children has identified as an autism spectrum disorder patient. ASDs start from childhood but symptoms can be detected in adulthood. That is why these children are not being able to have proper treatment at an early age and that causes more complexity in their health. Research shows that a diagnosis of autism at an earlier age can be more reliable and stable. Therefore, our study aims to estimate ASD (autism spectrum disorder) at a sooner possible time and increase more accuracy than the previous research and reduce medical costs. In our thesis paper, we want to predict and distinguish between autistic and non-autistic children by using a machine learning approach. Firstly, we have gathered data from the surveillance side as much as possible. We also set some particular questions and try to find maximum accurate answers to all questions. Furthermore, supervised learning algorithms are applied to diagnosis whether children meet the symptoms for ASD. Among all applied algorithms KNN and Random Forest shows maximum accuracy and speed to diagnosis. Finally, we will identify some evaluation matrix to identify the e ectiveness of our proposed algorithms for real-life software requirements speci cation.Item Comparative Performance of Commercial Banks in Bangladesh(Daffodil International University, 2021-12-05) Akter, TahminaThe financial system's health is interconnected to the health of the economy. Banks are using the public's funds for investment purposes. This internship report is based on a four-month internship program as part of the BBA program's requirements. Bangladesh has around 30 commercial banks that drive our economy. Agrani Bank is one of the country's most successful commercial banks. As competition intensifies, commercial banks are continually seeking for ways to improve their credit operations and performance assessment. I conducted a comparative analysis of three of Bangladesh's top performing banks in this report. These banks include BRAC Bank, Dutch Bangla Bank, and Eastern Bank, which all have the CRAB rating of AA3. Based on several financial parameters, such as Return on Equity, Return on Asset, Return on Investment, Profit after Tax, Loans and Deposit Size, earning per Share, the comparative study is carried out. There are a number of additional elements that are taken into account while evaluating performance. Finally, there are some conclusions to be drawn from this study.Item Cultural Imperialism in English in English Medium Schools(East West University, 6/1/2011) Akter, TahminaEnglish Medium Schools (henceforth EMSs) do not help to practice Bangladeshi culture when they teach English language and therefore seem to be culturally imperialistic (Haque, 2009). English language is replacing or displacing other languages (Phillipson, 1992: 27). A language is mingled with a culture (Ccnagarajah, 1999; Iredale in Phillipson 1992: 11). So, technically, it is replacing Bangladeshi culture as well. The students of EMSs follow British curriculum and read books written by foreigners based on foreign context (Haque, 2009). As a result, students, studying in EMSs of Bangladesh learn about western tradition, geography, history, political and cultural background, leaving out Bangladeshi resources( e. g. history, geography, literature and so on). For the sake of teaching good English, the schools follow some strategies which seem to hamper the practice of Bangla language and culture. Students of the English Medium schools seem to have little knowledge of Bangladeshi culture and history (Kamol, 2009). As a consequence of being detached from Bangladeshi language and culture, these students are becoming half foreigners, half Bangalees (Al-Qudarie, 2010). So, they seem to be guests in their own house. Data was collected from ten EMSs from Dhaka. A questionnaire survey (having both close and open ended questions) was carried out on 400 students and twenty English teachers were interviewed. Theoretical framework was based on Phillipson’s (1992) theory of linguistic and cultural imperialism. The explanation of the relation between language and culture was taken from Canagarajah (1999) and Modiano( 2001). From the findings of the study, it was revealed that the students of EMSs are much more attracted to western culture than that of Bangladesh. They (the students) follow the western way of life—from greetings to dressing, food habit to recreation, books to movie and from sports to gesture. Using diverse datasets encompassing demographic information, academic performance metrics, social media activity, and smartphone usage patterns, machine learning models are trained to recognize patterns indicative of mental health issues. The study evaluates various machine learning algorithms, including Support Vector Machines (SVM), Decision Trees (DT), Random Forests (RF), k-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Naive Bayes (NB), to determine their effectiveness in predicting depression and anxiety symptoms. Ethical considerations such as data privacy, bias mitigation, and responsible model deployment are also addressed. The experiment of eight treatments as follows: T1 = Urea @ 210 gm/plot + TSP @ 84gm/plot + MoP @ 98gm/plot [recommended doses (RD) of Urea, TSP and MoP] +Boron @ 7.0 gm/ Plot+ ZnSo4 @ 8.4 gm/ Plot ;T2 = RD of Urea, TSP and MoP +Spraying 0.2% Borax @ 2gm/ L of water; T3= RD of Urea, TSP and MoP +Spraying 0.2% ZnSo4 @ 2gm/ L of water; T4= RD of Urea, TSP and MoP +Spraying 0.5% Borax @ 5gm/ L of water; T5RD of Urea,TSP and MoP +Spraying 0.2% Borax + 0.2% ZnSo4 @ 2gm/ L of water; T6 = Urea @ 210 gm/plot+ TSP @ 180 gm/plot+ MoP @ 150gm/plot + Spraying 0.5% ZnSo4 @ 5gm/ L of water; T7 = Urea @ 210 gm/plot+ TSP @ 180gm/plot+ MoP @ 150gm/plot+ MgSo4 @ 12 gm/ Plot and T8= control. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 8 treatments and 3 replications. The overall result indicates that the combination of different micronutrientsdecreased the incidence of sucking insect pests of sunflower and increased the abundance of beneficial arthropods compared to T8treatment. In T1treatment, the lowest leaf infestation percentage caused by aphid 17.49 and 19.50 %; Jassid 14.19 and 14.89 % and White fly 26.18 and 30.83 % at the vegetative and reproductive stages respectively. The highest number of beneficial arthropods per plot of lady bird beetle both adults and grubs ((3.63 and 5.53 respectively); honey bee (22.36), ant (3.55), spider (1.42) was also recorded in T1treatment. The highest yield contributing characters of sunflower, the highest of head/ capitulam diameter (9.75cm), height of plant per plot (179.73 cm), leaf width (14.24 cm), leaf length (21.05 cm), area of leaves per plant (62.29 cm) and number of leaf per plant (21.93), number of total head per plot (29.83), number of seed per head (725.56), weight of single seed (1.03 mg), and weight of seed per head (54.96 gm) of sunflower were observed in T1treatment which was statistically different from among all other treatments. The highestsunfloweryield (1.92 kg /plot) and oil content (0.93 liter/2kg and 46.5%) were also observed from T1 treatment. Among the different micronutrient treatment combinations, different micronutrients using in T1 treatment were more effective for the reducing the incidence of sucking insect pests on sunflower. This internship was concluded with the objective of getting hands-on information in the General Banking and Loans & Advance deposits department of Bank Aisa Limited, Ashulia, Dhaka. My initial obligation was assigned to work and understand how General Banking is works. I also learned the corporate culture of banking industry during my internship and attended to so many training sessions inside the bank. Here I found Md Arif Hassan who was my campus dean and he assisted me to learn several work related tasks every day containing day-today bank transaction reports within the organization protocols. This internship report was prepared on the basis of financial performance from 2014 to 2018 of Bank Asia Limited. Bank Asia started its journey on 27 November of 1999 Recognized as the first private sector bank entirely owned by native entrepreneurs, Bank Asia has been booming as the prime private sector bank after encountering much pressure. The study which is based on 2014- 2018 year by using the updated data about their business area. At the beginning part of this report, some introductory words are discussed about banking activities. It also includes the main objectives of the report along with the methodology of the study. After that background and profile of the bank are discussed. Chapter-3 includes theoretical aspects of financial performance analysis tools. The most important part of this report is chapter 4 that evaluates the financial performance of Bank Asia Ltd. It includes horizontal and ratio analysis. The preventive strategies designed to minimize the virus transmission by remaining at home, being isolated, and keeping social distance, which would substantially reform people’s lifestyle, physical activity, eating habits, etc. Consequently, those measures might create a disturbance in weight management and overweight. Therefore, how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the physical activities of individuals and its impacts on the Body Mass Index (BMI) is explored herein. Methods An online-based cross-sectional study collected data from 338 Bangladeshi adults in November 2020. The questionnaire included socio-demographics, health-related variables, physical activity-related variables, and diet measurement. Inferential statistics (i.e., chi-square test, McNemar test) were used to measure the associations between BMI and studied variables with a consideration of two scenarios (‘before’ and ‘during’ the pandemic inception), where p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Results showed that the prevalence of overweight was 30.5% ‘before’ the COVID-19 pandemic, which increased to 34.9% ‘during’ the pandemic; that means 4.4% of the participants significantly gained weight after the pandemic inception. There was no significant role of socio-demographic (e.g., gender, age, current residence, occupation) or physical activity-related factors (e.g., unavailability of outdoor space, not performing regular physical exercise, exercising with a partner) in changing the BMI status after the pandemic inception. However, following a proper diet plan during the COVID-19 pandemic was observed to decrease BMI status significantly. Conclusions The present study suggests that a minor portion of the participants reported increasing their overweight status after the pandemic inception, whereas having a proper diet plan during the pandemic can significantly decrease BMI status. Therefore, the importance of the appropriate diet plan should be considered while implementing any policies.Item Line Follower Robot without Microcontroller(East West University, 8/11/2016) Nahar, Nazmun; Akter, TahminaLine Follower robot is a machine that follows a line, either a black line on white surface or vise-versa. Nowadays, every robot is done with the help of the microcontroller, and hence the circuit is too big and tough to understand and makes it costly. For these reasons, in this project we have developed an intelligent Line follower robot with a simple concept with simple circuitry. Basically there are two types of line follower robots: one is black line follower which follows black line and second is white line follower which follows white line. Here we have designed the first one. Line follower actually senses the line and run over it.Item Nationally representative surveys show gradual shifting of overweight and obesity towards poor and less-educated women of reproductive age in Nepal(Cambridge University Press, 3/27/2020) Sutradhar, Ipsita; Akter, Tahmina; Hasan, Mehedi; Gupta, Rajat Das; Joshi, Hemraj; Haider, Mohammad Rifat; Sarker, MalabikaOverweight and obesity are considered major public health concerns all over the world. They have the potential to increase the risk of developing non-communicable diseases in reproductive age women, increasing their risk of pregnancy related complications and adverse birth outcome. This study was carried out to identify the trend of prevalence of overweight and obesity, along with their determinants, among reproductive age women (15–49 years) in Nepal. Data were taken from the nationally representative 2006, 2011 and 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Surveys (NDHSs). Women were considered to be overweight or obese when their BMI was 23.0–27.5 kg/m2 or ≥27.5 kg/m2 , respectively. Univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed, with significance taken at p<0.05. The prevalences of overweight and obesity both showed rising trends in women of reproductive age in Nepal from 2006 to 2016, particularly among those with no education, only primary education and poor women. The presence of overweight and obesity was found to be significantly associated with the sample women’s age, educational status, wealth index, place of residence, ecological zone, developmental region, number of household members, marital status and ethnicity. In 2016 one in every three women of reproductive age in Nepal was either overweight or obese. As overweight and obesity have detrimental effects on women’s health, the Government of Nepal, in collaboration with other government and non-government organizations, should take action to halt the rising trends in overweight and obesity in the country.Item Negative Effects of the Urban River Pollution on the Environment and Human Health in Bangladesh(Technoscience Publications, 2023-09) (Babu), Kudrat-E-Khuda; Riaduzzaman, Md.; Akter, Tahmina; Akther, SumaiaBased on research findings, Bangladesh’s river water, crucial for domestic, agricultural, and industrial use, has long been in a terrible situation. There have been numerous instances of significant contamination in the waterways surrounding Dhaka city, including the Buriganga River, and in Chattogram city, including the Karnaphuli River, over the past 40 years. The existing data demonstrate that other urban rivers, particularly Karatoa, Teesta, Rupsa, Pasur, and Padma, are also in severe condition due to the disposition of huge pollutants. Contaminants flowing with the water have severely polluted the downstream areas of the rivers. High metal concentrations are frequently observed in river water during the dry season. In the Buriganga River and at certain locations in the Turag, Balu, Sitalakhya, and Karnaphuli Rivers, the presence of dissolvable oxygen (DO) is nearly zero. NO3, NO2, and PO4-3 pollution has also occurred in many rivers. Most rivers have Cr, Zn, Fe, Pb, Cu, Cd, Mn, As, and Ni concentrations beyond the legal limit for drinking water. In contrast, some rivers have metal concentrations above the legal irrigation water limit. The majority of the rivers, particularly the peri-urban rivers in Dhaka city, Teesta, Korotoa, Rupsha, Karnaphuli, and Meghna Rivers, have significantly higher metal concentrations, according to sediment data. Metal concentrations in sediment are generally higher than USEPA standards in most rivers. Metal concentrations in fish and crops demonstrate metal bioaccumulation. The trend in metal concentration follows the order of water, fish, and sediment. It has been shown that crops irrigated with tainted water contain dangerous metals. The analysis of daily intake data on carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic substances reveals that consuming contaminated food can seriously impact human health.Item PHENOTYPIC AND REPRODUCTIVE PARAMETERS OF COMMON PIGEON BREEDS OF BEGUMGANJ UPZILLA, NOAKHALI(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, 2022-09) Akter, TahminaThe study was conducted to distinguish the phenotypic and reproductive characteristics of common pigeon breeds available in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Total 22 households, which have at least 3 pair of pigeon were selected for this study. These data were collected from 15 February. 2022 to 30 April, 2022. A total of 150 pigeons of 13 breeds were selected and the data were collected by using a questionnaire and analyses with Microsoft Excel, 2010.The objective of the study were to measure the phenotypic and reproductive characteristics of pigeon. Close observation of each pigeon was done to record the phenotypic characteristics and digital balance machine and measuring tape were used to measuring the quantitative data. In this study, the plumage color, beak shape and beak color were the main phenotypic features observed. About 33% of total pigeons head feather colour was of black and 27-33% was of white. White was the most prominent colour in neck, almost 36% in male and 33% in female birds; although greenish colour feather at neck with other colour was seen frequently. White wing feather were seen in 50-53% of total pigeons, rest were of black and brown colour. Short straight pink coloured beak was found in more than half of the total pigeon. Some other measurable phenotypic characteristics were also recorded and analyzed. The mean body weight, body length, wing length and wing span found were 358.05±4.98gm, 32.18±0.17cm, 29.12±0.24cm and 62.99±0.63cm in male respectively; which is relatively higher than that of female. The values found in female were 356.61±3.23gm, 32.12±0.20cm, 29.09±0.13cm,and 62.86±0.47cm respectively. The average egg weight found was 16.06 ± 0.21gm. The mean length and width of the egg were listed as 3.82±0.08cm and 2.86±0.78cm respectively. The correlation between body weight and body length was 0.794, which shows these two body parameters correlate significantly. The other parameters were also tested, but these do not correlate significantly. Five populations of chickens in different regions of Balashpur, Mymensingh were studied based on 8 qualitative and quantitative traits recorded for a total of 20 chicken. Each of the study populations possessed multiple variants of plumage colours and other physical features. However, white body plumage is one of the prominent and red is predominant in the populations. Pea comb is the dominant comb type in all regions. Most of the chickens in the high altitude regions have yellow skin. The geographic distribution and frequency of naked neck chickens are generally small, and the available small proportion is found mainly in the low altitude regions. Males in all populations are heavier and taller than the females. Body weights range from 1 kg to 2 kg in adult males and females. Most common reason of heart attacks or any other heart diseases commonly indicates high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, mental stress and so on. According to reports, nowadays babies also have a variety of heart conditions. A prominent characteristic of acquired heart disease is a coronary artery disease (CAD). Some coronary arteries carry nutrients, oxygen and most importantly- blood to our heart. However, since 2013, no study investigated the prevalence and determinants of hypertension in Nepal involving nationally representative sample. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the current prevalence of hypertension in Nepal and its determinants using the latest nationally representative data obtained from Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) 2016. The NDHS 2016 collected data on hypertension from 13,304 men and women aged 18 years and above from 5,520 urban and 5,970 rural households covering seven administrative provinces and three ecological zones. Participants were considered as hypertensive when their systolic blood pressure was 140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure was 90 mmHg and/or they reported taking antihypertensive medication. A total of 19.9% study participants were diagnosed as hypertensive of which majority were male (male-24.3%, female-16.9%), ever married (ever married-21.7%, unmarried-6.1%) and residents of urban area (urban-20.9%, rural-18.3%). Hypertension prevalence has shown growing trend with the increase of age. This prevalence was also higher among rich and overweight/obese individuals. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, older age, male gender, better education, residence at urban area and province 4 and 5 and being overweight/obese were found positive association with having hypertension. When the determinants of hypertension were stratified by sex of the participants, difference was observed in case of age group, education and place of residence. As one out of every five individuals in Nepal are hypertensive, public health initiatives are immediately required for prevention and control of hypertension to reduce mortality and morbidity associated with this progressive disease.
