Evaluation of Insecticides for Control of Mango Mealybug (Drosicha mangiferae) in Bangladesh
    (Open Access Library Journal, 2024-08) Akhter, N.; Alam, M. Z.; Rahaman, M. A.; Miah, M. R. U.; Mian, I. H.; Latif, M. A.
Effectiveness of chemical insecticides namely Imidacloprid (0.4 g/L), Carbaryl (4 g/L), Thiamethoxam (0.4 g/L), Cypermethrin (1 ml/L), Carbosulfan (3 ml/L), Spinosad (0.4 ml/L), Dimethoate (2 ml/L) and Spirotetramate (2 ml/L) was evaluated to control 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd instar nymphs and adult females of mango mealybugs (D. mangiferae) at Entomology laboratory, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Imidacloprid, Carbaryl, Thiamethoxam, Cypermethrin, Carbosulfan, Spinosad, and Dimethoate gave 90% mortality of 1 st instar nymph after 72 hr of spraying and dipping. At 2 nd instar, Cypermethrin, Carbosulfan, Spinosad, and Dimethoate gave 91.67%, 88.33%, 85.00%, and 85.00% mortality respectively by spraying method after 72 hr of treatment. In the dipping method, the highest mortality (90%) was achieved with Cypermethrin which was statistically similar to Carbosulfan (88.33%), Spinosad (86.67%), and Dimethoate (85%). At this nymphal stage, the lowest (63.33%) mortality was observed under Spirotetramate. In the case of the 3 rd instar, the highest (76.67%) and the lowest mortality (30.00%) was obtained with Cypermethrin and Spirotetramate respectively by spraying method. A similar trend was found in the dipping method. No mortality of adult females was found both in the spraying and dipping methods. Comparative susceptibility of 1 s t, 2 nd, 3 rd instars and adult females showed that the 1 st instar nymph was more susceptible to all insecticides compared to 2 nd, 3 rd instar nymphs and adult females.Subject AreasPlant Science.

IDENTIFICATION OF SUBMERGENCE TOLERANT RICE GENOTYPES WITH REFERENCE TO LEAF PHYSIOLOGY
(Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2019-01) Akhter, N.; Ahamded, K.U.; Rahman, M.M.
TIll: experiment was carried out at the research farms and plant physiology laboratory of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during aman season of 2014 10 study the response of different rice genotypes to submergence conditions and identified submergence tolerance of arnan rice genotypes best on leaf physiological parameters. TIle experiment was conducted with three tolerant (ORRI dhan5:J. IR64Subl. FRI3A) and one susceptible genotype (BRS) with four submergence treatments (0. 7.14. and 21 days of submergence). TIle experiment was laid out in two factors randomized complete block design with four replications. Different leaf physiological processes were hampered due to submergence, The negative cllcct of submergence was increased with increasing submergence duration. But then: was genotypic variation in every submergence level. After desubmergencc the relative water content. stomatal conductance. transpiration rate, intercellular COl concentration, net assimilation rate and specific leaf weight were less affected in IlRRI dhan52 and FR I3A and were more affected in IR64Sub I and in UR5. Considering different physiological processes BRRI dhan52 showed 1I10r.: submergence tolerance compared 10 other genotypes,

STUDY ON THE LEAF TRAITS OF AMAN RICE VARIETIES IN VARIOUS SOlL MOISTURE LEVELS
    (Sher-e-Bangia Agricultural University Research System (SAURES), 2019-01) Rahman, M. M.; Aharned, K. U.; Akhter, N.
An cxperiment was carried out at Sher-c-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from July to November 2014 to study the performance of four transplanted aman rice varieties (BRRI dhan56. BRRI dhan57. Binadhnn-? & BRRJ dlwn49) under three different soil moisture levels> (100% field capacity moisture content or control, 70% of the control moisture and -l0% of the control moisture). 111e experiment was carried out in a polythcnc shed controlling the intrusion of rainfall. 111C results indicated that leaf area. specific leaf area and relative water content were found to be the highest at 100~o Fe conduron and the lowest at 40% FC condition: but the reduction was comparauvely lower III BRRJ dhun56 and BRRI dban-l9. 0 leaf rolling was recorded ill 100·0 field capacity moisture level and the highest leaf wiling was recorded at -l00 0 field capacity moisture level. 70°'0 field capacity moisture did not give an) remarkable effect on BRRI dhan56 and BRRI dhan49. 111CS!: varieties could be cultivated In drought-prone areas of Bangladesh providing 70% field capacity moisture.
