Human resource practices and policies in concord group
(BRAC University, 5/9/2010) Quader, Fuad; Afza, Syeda Rownak
Concord is a one of the biggest and most successful company of Bangladesh. It has been establishes in 1972 as small Engineering and Construction firm. Now it is 38 years old and it has expanded its business beyond Real Estate and all over Bangladesh as well as abroad. Since its establishment it proved itself to be a successful organization and that success has leaded it towards other industries, for example: Entertainment industry, AD Firm, Garments Industries and so on. But still its main concern is the Real Estate sector, because still Concord’s biggest portion of revenues comes from this very sector. Managing such a large organization is not that easy, especially if it is one of the largest employers of Bangladesh. Concord had solution to this from the very beginning of its journey. It has a strong Human Resource Department and Administrative system. Administration and HRD works all together to manage the large number of employees that Concord has all over Bangladesh abroad. Administration basically deals with strong policies and HRD is responsible for the implementation of those policies. Concord built it HRD up in such a way that from the recruitment to the resignation or retirement of an employee, it has solutions to every problem that an employee might face during his/her service period in the organization. Apart from all the solutions to problems, HRD also deals with motivating the employees just to make sure that the organization gets the best out of them. For such case it uses strong policies regarding Compensation and Benefits, leave and others. HRD maintains strong employee relationship so that the employees get support for the every step that they take during their service period. Reasons behind the success of HRD are due to the strong policies that the organization follows and the HR personnel who work hard with their heart and soul to implement those policies for the betterment of the employees as well for the organization. All the way through this report I tries my level best to make sure that every single practice HRD has been described in such a way that there should not be any scope for questions regarding the efficiency of HRD of Concord. Besides the overall practices of HRD, I have also given a brief idea regarding my Assignments throughout the Internship period. I described when and why I was given those assignments and at the end how I ended with them.

Measurement of service quality in Bangladesh mobile phone sector: issues, standards and practices
(University of Dhaka, 2015-06-07) Afza, Syeda Rownak
Service quality is a very emerging issue in the area of marketing research at present. It is applicable to every sector and organizations profitability highly depend on this. In our country, Mobile telecommunication is playing a vital role to our economy. But, there were hardly any research addressing the issue of service quality in the mobile telecommunication sector particularly in our country. Although, there have been some research done in other countries, linking service quality and customers' satisfaction and continuance intention has neglected in most of the previous research. This study has tried to present an empirical investigation regarding service quality issues and practices in the Bangladesh mobile telecom area. This study also tried to make an association with service quality and customers' perceived value, satisfaction and their continuance intention. Also, an empirical study has been made to identify the net promotion score of the different mobile operators in Bangladesh, which the researcher believes as an unique contribution of this research. To validate the study, this study used a quantitative‐positivist approach as a research paradigm, cross‐sectional design as a survey method for collective quantitative data, Key informant interview and Focus group for collecting qualitative data, convenience sampling as a sampling technique and mainly multivariate analysis ( Exploratory Factor Analysis and Multiple regression analysis) as a data analysis technique. The findings of this study represents some particular service quality parameters that are used as benchmark to measure the service quality of the mobile operators in Bangladesh. A number of factors in service came up, which have a significant association with customers' perceived value, satisfaction and continuance intention. Most importantly, this study found that, even customers perceived service quality is low, they still want to continue the service of their mobile operators due to different switching barriers. Also, the Net Promotion Score of the different Mobile operators are significantly low, even in some cases it shows negative score, which may have a strong effect on the organizations profitability and growth. Theoretically, the study extends service quality research by reframing the concept as a reflective, hierarchical model and framing its impact on satisfaction, continuance intentions in the developing country context like Bangladesh. Practically, for the practitioners and policy makers of various mobile telecom operators in Bangladesh, this study provides a conceptual service quality model for conducting integrated analysis and design of service delivery systems. Overall, in the mobile telecommunication service quality research in Bangladesh, this study makes a significant contribution by identifying the benchmarks and its association with customers' perceived value, satisfaction and continuance intention.

For ease of understanding, the report is segmented into five parts. In the first part contains background of the report, objectives, scope, methodology and limitations of the report. Next part of the report demonstrated the profile of the company where I have completed my intern. The Third part, contains the details about my job responsibilities in UFIL Fourth Part, main part of the Report, named ‘project’ contains details about the financial performance of the firm. At the last part, I have tried to find out the facts from internship from the organization and also give some suggestions where the firm could have scope to improve. Non-Bank Financial Institutions is new form of financial institutions, the functions of such institutions are relatively new and challenging compared with the conventional banks. Leasing is one of the main concentrations of these firms. And the function and operation of leasing closely resemble with the academic aspects of finance. Therefore, in doing internship at such leasing institutions it would be benefited for such student who came from finance background. This report is based on mainly on the experience and academic knowledge. At the beginning of the report, there are some prefaces about the report, such as objectives, scope, methodology and limitations. Then I have discussed about Organization, Uttara Finance and Investments Limited, where I have tried to give an idea about UFIL which includes overview of UFIL, history, its functional department with their function, importantly its products and service offering to us, sources of fund, and disbursement of funds, lease operational procedure, required documents for lease, some major events and future plan. Next to this part, my learning from the internship is articulated. During the internship period, I was assigned at the various department of UFIL. I worked at the, Corporate Unit, Operation & monitoring department, Treasury Unit of UFIL. Also here, I have shared about the nature of my job, about the specific Job responsibilities, which I had to perform, and a different aspect of this Job has been diagrammatically presented in this report for clear understandings. Also, here, I have tried to expose my critically observed point at each functional department so I made some suggestion on the basis of that. After that, project part of the report has been articulated. Importantly in this section I have tried to evaluate the performance of UFIL, simply it can be said that an analytical assessment of UFIL. Here, I have tried to analyze mainly from two points of view, which are- Intra Company Analysis, and Intercompany analysis. Income Statement (audited) and Balance Sheet (audited) have been analyzed in intercompany analysis over three period of time FY2006, FY2007 and FY2008. In intercompany Analysis, comparative analysis tools have been used to evaluate performance of UFIL in compare to four other NBFIs’ (IDLC, ULC, Phoenix Finance, PLFI) also with same industry average over the same period of time.. Besides these, I have also shown it’s sector-wise sanctioned lease position and its recovery rate. Therefore, from the above point of view I have tried to analyze UFIL and tried to bring out the position of UFIL in industry. At the final section of the report, I have discussed what I found throughout my internship period in UFIL. It was my subjective judgment where I used my experience and intuition regarding the facts. I have also tried to point out the areas where UFIL’s has the opportunity to improve furthermore.
