Item Analysis of Water Quality of Hatirjheel Lake, Dhaka, Bangladesh(Technoscience Publications, 2023-01-02) Pasha, A. B. M. Kamal; Mustafa, Syed Omayer; Rahman, S. M. Mahmudur; Abdullah, Muhammad; Chowdhury, Md. Azharul Haque; Parveen, MahfuzaThe study assessed the status of water quality parameters for an urban water body (Hatirjheel Lake) in Dhaka, the Capital city of Bangladesh. Nine different water samples were collected from nine points of the lake during the dry season in January 2021. Water quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total alkalinity, total acidity, total hardness, Ca2+ hardness, free CO2, and dissolved oxygen (DO) were determined for the samples. The status of the parameters is pH (6.51- 7.05), EC (510-600 μS.cm-1), TDS (450-590 ppm), TSS (0.0-0.034 mg.L-1), total alkalinity (80- 392 mg.L-1), total acidity (224-500 mg.L-1), total hardness (348-452 mg.L-1), Ca2+ hardness (74-162 mg.L-1), free CO2 (730-1170 mg.L-1), DO (2.7-5.5 mg.L-1). However, the DO value at some points of the lake is too less (2.7 mg.L-1 and 3.7 mg.L-1) than the standard value (> 5-6 mg.L-1) of ECR, DoE, which might not be healthy for any water body and aquatic ecosystem. Other water quality parameters are within the permissible limit of WHO and ECR, DoE.Item Assessment of groundwater resources in Bogra district using groundwater model(Department of Civil Engineering (CE), 2014-10) Abdullah, Muhammad; Fakhrul Ameen, Dr. SyedGroundwater is the largest source of usable fresh water in the world. Domestic & irrigation water needs are being met in many parts of the world using groundwater, especially where surface water supplies are not available. The use of groundwater compared to surface water is much higher in north-western districts in Bangladesh. Due to over abstraction in the recent years of north-western districts, groundwater is lowering at an alarming rate. The objective of the study is to analyze the trend & extent of groundwater table due to expanding status of water demand. To assess groundwater resources of Bogra district due to future water demands, change in crop pattern & increase of water demand is considered. MIKE SHE hydrologic model has been used to simulate fluctuating water table to assess groundwater resources. MIKE SHE is a deterministic, physics-based, distributed & integrated hydrologic model, deals with entire hydrologic cycle. Precipitation, evapotranspiration & groundwater abstraction are fundamental hydro-meteorological & hydro-geological inputs. The rainfall data was obtained from daily records of eight BWDB stations; evapotranspiration data was obtained from only one BWDB station in the study area. Groundwater abstraction is assumed as the integration of irrigation & domestic water needs. The model inputs regarding land use classification, topography & lithologic layers underneath the upper soil were incorporated directly from IWM. Few input data has been projected using suitable projection models. Model has been simulated within the period from 2006 to 2030. The simulated phreatic surface & their trends have been compared with the observed levels & their trends. Finally, the model has been adjusted using calibration parameters. Lower phreatic surface & higher depletion rate is found in south-western upazilas of Bogra district. The depletion rates vary from 0.00 to 2.92 cm/year for mean depth of phreatic surface. Maximum depth of phreatic surface varies from 1.20 cm/year to 14.45 cm/year. After a drought rainfall year, lower phreatic surface is observed. However this is regained in subsequent years with an average rainfall. Contribution to groundwater recharge in Bogra district is mainly due to rainfall.Item Flowery ln2MnSe4 Novel Electrocatalyst Developed via Anion Exchange Strategy for Efficient Water Splitting(Daffodil International University, 2022-06-28) Manzoor, Sumaira; Trukhanov, Sergei V.; Ansari, Mohammad Numair; Abdullah, Muhammad; Alruwaili, Atalah; Trukhanov, Alex V.; Khandaker, Mayeen Uddin; Idris, Abubakr M.; El-Nasser, Karam S.; Taha, Taha AbdelMohaymenOxygen and hydrogen generated by water electrolysis may be utilized as a clean chemical fuel with high gravimetric energy density and energy conversion efficiency. The hydrogen fuel will be the alternative to traditional fossil fuels in the future, which are near to exhaustion and cause pollution. In the present study, flowery-shaped In2MnSe4 Nano electro catalyst is fabricated by anion exchange reaction directly grown on nickel foam (NF) in 1.0 M KOH medium for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The physiochemical and electrical characterization techniques are used to investigate the chemical structure, morphology, and electrical properties of the In2MnSe4 material. The electrochemical result indicates that synthesized material exhibits a smaller value of Tafel slope (86 mV/dec), lower over potential (259 mV), and high stability for 37 h with small deterioration in the current density for a long time. Hence, the fabricated material responds with an extraordinary performance for the OER process and for many other applications in the future.
