FEASIBILITY STUDY OF TRELLIS-GROWN VEGETABLE ON THE AILS OF GROWING RICE FIELD
(2011) AZAD, MD. ABUL KALAM; Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Hasan
An experiment was conducted at Birganj Upazila of Dinajpur district. The study was carried out in T. Aman season starting from 25 June 2011 with a view to observing the performance of different species of trellis-grown vegetable on the ails of growing rice field with regard to both productivity and profitability. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Treatments were as factor A: C; = Bottle gourd (B,), C, = White gourd (W), C; = Yard long bean (Y) and C, = Bitter gourd (Bi), C; = Cucumber, factor B: I, = Growing vegetables on the ails of rice plots once in T. Aman rice, I, = Growing vegetables on the ails of rice plots twice, once in T. Aman rice and another is Boro rice, I, = Growing vegetables on the ails of rice plots thrice in T. Aman rice and Boro rice. The results revealed that grain yield was the highest in rice + cucumber (C;) and lowest grain yield was found in rice + bottle gourd (C,). One time vegetable production (I,) produced the highest grain yield and the lowest grain yield was received from two time’s vegetable production (I,). In terms of vegetable production, the maximum vegetable yield was obtained from rice + bottle gourd (C,) and the minimum value was received from rice + yard long bean (C3) crop combination and as cucumber (C;) was severely damaged by rainfall its yield was not much remarkable, On the basis of intensity of vegetable I; treatment gave the highest vegetable yield. Highest rice equivalent yield was found from rice + bottle gourd (C,) crop combination and lowest value was found from rice + cucumber (Cs) crop combination. The higher rice equivalent yield was found in I; treatment. On the other hand, the lower rice equivalent yield was obtained from I, treatment. Among the treatment combination the highest vegetable yield and rice equivalent yield was recorded from CI; (i.e. rice + bottle gourd with one time vegetable cultivation) treatment combination. The lowest value of vegetable yield and rice equivalent yield was recorded respectively from C3l, and CsI, treatment combinations. The highest value of gross return was obtained from the C,I, treatment combination (i.e. rice + bottle gourd with one time vegetable cultivation). On the other hand, the lowest value of gross return was recorded from the treatment C;l>. The highest net return was observed that the C,I, treatment combination (rice + bottle gourd with one time vegetable cultivation) and the lowest net return was observed from the C3l, treatment combination (rice + yard long bean with two times vegetable cultivation). The highest benefit-cost ratio was recorded from CI, treatment combination (rice + bottle gourd with two times vegetable cultivation) and the lowest benefit-cost ratio was observed in C3], treatment combination i.e. rice + yard long bean with two times vegetable cultivation.

VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS OF POTATO IN SELECTED AREAS OF MUNSHIGANJ DISTRICT
(DEPT. OF AGRIBUSINESS AND MARKETING, 2014) AZAD, MD. ABUL KALAM
A series of value-generating activities associated with product marketing from farm level to the ultimate consumer referred to as the value chain. In Bangladesh potato value chain starting from producer then there may have many intermediary channels like potato producer, Faria, Bepari, Wholesaler, Retailer, and Consumer etc. . The study was conducted at sirajdikhan upazila under Munshiganj distric to identify the actors involved in value chain and their function in potato marketing, to estimate the value addition of potato by the actors in potato market, to estimate the seasonal price fluctuation of potato in the study area, to identify the constraints of potato marketing and suggest measure for the improvement of potato marketing in the selected area. The selected samples included 65
