Item GENOTYPE- ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION IN COTTON (Gossypium herbaceum L.)(HAJEE MOHAMMOD DANESH SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY, DINAJPUR, 2007-12) ALI, M. M. ABED; Md. Abul Kalam AzadGenetically diverse ten genotypes were tested under three different spacings which were S; (90cm x45cm), S2 (90cmx50cm) and $3 (90cm x60cm) at Cotton Research, Training and Seed Multiplication Farm, Sadarpur, Dinajpur during the growing season, 2006- 2007. Intercultural operations and application of pesticides were carried out as and when necessary. Seed cotton yield other nine yield contributing characters viz. vegetative branches/plant, node number of first fruiting branches (nfb)/plant. number of primary fruiting branches/plant, number of secondary fruiting branches/plant, days to 50% flowering, days to 50% boll splitting, plant height at harvest (cm), number of bolls/plant, boll weight (g), and ginning and lint parameters viz. seed cotton yield (kg/ ha), fibre length (mm), fibre strength (gm/tex), fibre fineness (mg/inch), ginning out turn (got %), seed index (g), lint index (g) and fuzz grade were estimated. High heritability along with high expected genetic advances were projected by most of the characters. The selected characters were under additive genetic fashion but environment played an important role to express each of the characters. The strong and positive correlation coefficient (0.6578**) was computed between number of bolls/plant and seed cotton yield. Analysis of variance revealed significant effect of the spacing over the characters studied. Phenotypic index, regression coefficient and deviation from regression coefficient were the fundamental clues of GxE interaction. After furnishing the results, the genotype D-1 found to be the suitable and the spacing 60cmx90cm most favourable for the characters. The seed cotton yield along with yield of lint was high in D-1 but the fibre of VN-35 found to be the heavy strengthy as reflected by its PSI of 85.39
