BIOFLOC CULTURE METHOD FOR GROWTH PERFORMANCE, SURVIVAL RATE AND NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION OF SNAKEHEAD FISH (Channa striata) ON NATURAL EXTRACT SUPPLEMENT
(DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY, 2020) ALAM, MD. KHAIRUL
Snakehead fish (Channa striata) is a well known and important freshwater fish in Southeast Asian countries. The experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Biofloc Culture Lab to evaluate the growth performances, survival rate and nutritional composition of snakehead fish (C. striata). There has four treatments with three replications. Water quality parameters were monitored through temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, total dissolved solids, alkalinity and hardness. Maximum length increase (14.15±0.2) cm of C. striata was found in treatment-4. Highest weight gain also noticed in the same treatment which was (105.67±6.65)g. Control treatment showed lowest performance among the parameter studied. Maximum specific growth rate was 2.70% in treatment-4 whereas 2.50% was minimum in treatment-1. In treatment-3 survival rate was highest, which was 75.76% and in control treatment, the lowest survival rate was recorded that was 47.88%. Feed conversion ratio was better (1.08) in tretment-4. Daily mean weight gain was noteworthy in treatment-4 which was 1.50g and lowest daily mean weight gain was recorded 1.1g in control treatment. From the analysis of proximate composition of C. striata 69.67% protein content was available in treatment-4 which was maximum and the lowest protein content was found 61.84% in treatment-2. Considering all the results, the optimum growth performance and nutritional composition was better in treatment-4 (Extract of Garlic and Amla) compared to other treatments. In the era of aquaculture and microbial biotechnology there has a huge potentiality to fulfill the requirement of fish protein by the culture of C. striata in biofloc technology.

EFFECT OF DA TE OF SOWING ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF THREE VARIETIES OF RADISH (Raphanus sativus L.)
(DEPT. OF HORTICULTURE, 2005) ALAM, MD. KHAIRUL
The present experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, during the period from November 2004 to January 2005 to study the effect of date of sowing on growth and yield of three varieties of radish. Seeds of three cultivars of radish namely Tasakisan, SAU Line-I and Red Bombay were sown on three different dates viz. November 1, November 15, December 1. Sowing date Showed significant effects on the growth and yield of radish. Maximum number of leaves and leaf length were produced by plant sown on November 1, Similarly root diameter (width), root fresh weight, yield per plot and yield per hectare were obtained from November 1 sowing. All these parameters showed decreasing trend as sowing date was delayed. In the experiment, November 1 sowing gave the highest yields of (81.82 t/ha) compared to the lowest yield of 68.75 t/ha by December 1 sowing V2 (SAU Line-I). There was no significant variation among the varieties. Combined effect of sowing date and varieties showed that sowing on November 1, all cultivars performed well in respect of yield and yield components. November 1 showed the best sowing date of radish and SAU Line -1 gave the highest yield but the benefit cost ratio (10.52) was the highest in Tasakisan. Late sowing produced Radish of poor quality, as they were hard in texture and poor in overall acceptability.

EFFECT OF NITROGEN AND PHOSPHORUS FERTILIZERS ON YIELD COMPONENTS AND YIELD IN POTATO (Solanum tuberosum)
(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY, SHER-E-BANGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY , DHAKA -1207, 2018-06) ALAM, MD. KHAIRUL
The experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka, Bangladesh during November 2017 to February 2018 to study the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer on yield components and yield in potato (Solanum tuberosum). Four nitrogen levels; N 0 = 0 kg N ha -1 , N 1 = 55 kg N ha -1 = 110 kg N ha -1 and N 3 = 165 kg N ha -1 and four Phosphorus levels; P 0 = 0 kg P ha = 25 kg P ha -1 , P 2 = 50 kg P ha -1 and P 3 = 75 kg P ha -1 were considered for the present study. The experiment was laid out in the two factors Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on different growth, yield components and yield of potato were recorded. Most of parameters were significantly affected by different levels of N application. The highest tuber yield ha (23.67 t) were found from the treatment N 2 -1 , N -1 2 , P 1 (25.23 t) and marketable yield ha (110 kg N ha -1 ) compared to control treatment N 0 (0 kg N ha -1 ). P treatment also significantly affected all the studied parameters and the highest tuber yield ha -1 (23.43 t) and marketable yield ha (21.94 t) were achieved from the treatment P 2 (50 kg P ha -1 -1 ) compared to control treatment P (0 kg P ha -1 ). Considering combined effect of N and P, the highest plant height (65.65 cm), number of leaves hill -1 (72.55) and leaf area index (18.96), SPAD value at 50 DAS (52.18 at 50 DAS), number of tuber hill -1 (8.12), weight of tuber hill (213.1 g), weight of tuber plot -1 (8.53 kg), tuber yield ha (2726 t) was recorded from the treatment combination of N -1 -1 (28.42 t) and marketable yield ha 2 P 2 (110 kg N ha + 50 kg P ha -1 ) whereas lowest plant height (44.20 cm), number of stem hill -1 (2.94), number of leaves hill -1 (48.44), leaf area index (10.73), number of tuber hill -1 (4.48), weight of tuber hill -1 (80.78 g), weight of tuber plot -1 (3.23 kg), tuber yield ha (10.77 t) and marketable yield ha -1 (8.17 t) were found from the treatment combination of N (0 kg N ha -1 + 0 kg P ha -1 ). -1 -1 0 P 0 -1 0 -1
