    CONSUMERS’ PERCEPTION TOWARDS ORGANIC FOOD IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF BANGLADESH

    The present development in the food market indicates that organic food became one of the important parts of the market. The purposes of the study were t hus to describe the selected characteristics of the consumers perception towards organic food; to determine the extent of consumers perception towards organic food and to explore the relationship between each of the selected characteristics of consumers with their perception towards organic food. The stud y was purposively conducted at Narsingdi and Dhaka district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to collect data from 105 consumers during 15 th February, 2022 to 15 March, 2022 . Descriptive statist ics and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used. The majority (79.05 percent) of the respondents had favorable perception towards organic food compared to having 14.28 percent unfavorable perception towards organic food and only 6.67 percent had neutral perception towards organic food, respectively. Among seven selected characteristics of the consumer five characterist ics namely; education, source of weekly food shopping, extent of information received about organic food and availabilit y of organic food had significant positive relationship with their perception towards organic food but barriers to purchasing organic food had negat ively significant relationship with their perception towards organic food. The rest two characteristics namely age and annual family income had no significant relationship with their perception towards organic food.

    EVALUATION OF SOME CONTROL METHODS AND THEIR EFFECTIVENESSES AGAINST BEAN POD BORER, MARUCA TESTULALIS GEYER

    An experiment was conducted in the experimental field of Shcr-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from September 2006 to March 2007 to evaluate some control methods and their effectiveness against bean pod borer, Monica tcsiulaltc Geyer. The experiment consists of treatment such as mechanical, one botanical and one chemical and their combinations. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBI)) with three replications. Data were collected in respect of the fruit infested in number and weight basis and some yield contributing characters and yield of bean. Data on percent infested fruit in terms of number and weight per plot showed statistically significant variation at 0.01 level of probability. In early, mid and late fruiting stage the highest percent infested fruit in number and weight was recorded in untreated plot and the lowest was found in the plot treated with mechanical control plus Ripcord I OliC @ 2m11 of water at 7 days interval for all the harvest. in number of flower intlorescence (18.33) was recorded in T5 (mechanical control plus Ripcord JOEC © 2mIl of water at 7 days interval) treatment and the lowest number of flower infloreseenee (13.37) was recorded in T, (untreated control) treatment. The highest weight of single fruit (11.80 g) was recorded in T5 (mechanical control plus Ripcord IOEC @ 2m/l of water at 7 days interval) treatment and the lowest weight of single fruit (8.83g) was recorded in 'I' (untreated control) treatment. Maximum and minimum length of single fruit (I 1.90cm) was recorded in T (mechanical control plus Ripcord IOEC @ 2m/l of water at 7 days interval) treatment and in T7 (untreated control) treatment (9.83cm) respectively. The highest yield per hectare (17.65 ton) was recorded in T5 treatment and the lowest (9.93 ton) was recorded in T (untreated control) treatment. On the other hand highest benefit cost-ratio (2.89) was recorded in the treatment T5 and negative benefit cost-ratio (-0.51) was recorded in treatment T1.

    GROWTH AND YIELD OF BRINJAL AS INFLUENCED BY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF POTASSIUM

    A field experiment was conducted at horticulture farm of Sher-e- bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from March to July 2022 to investigate the growth and yield of brinjal as influenced by varieties and potassium. The experiment consisted of two factors and followed by randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Factor A: three brinjal varieties viz. V 1 (BARI hybrid begun-4), V 2 (BARI begun-8) and V 3 (BARI begun-10) and factor B: four levels of potassium (K) viz. K 0 (0 kg K ha- 1 ), K 1 (95 kg K ha -1 ), K 2 (115 kg K ha -1 ) and K 3 (135 kg K ha ). In case of variety, significant variation was found for different parameters. The tallest plant (83.19 cm), maximum number of leaves per plant (35.18), highest number of fruits per plant (31.88), single fruit weight (58.18 g) and the highest yield (45.13 t ha ) was achieved from the variety V 1 . On the other hand, the different levels of potassium showed significant differences among them. The treatment K 3 provided the highest plant height (84.66 cm), number of leaves per plant (36.87), number of fruits per plant (29.93), single fruit weight (55.46 g) and the highest yield (39.96 t ha -1 ). Combined effect of variety and potassium also showed significant difference among the treatments. The treatment combination of V 1 K 3 performed the highest plant height (93.72 cm), number of leaves per plant (38.12) whereas V 1 K 2 gave the highest number of fruits per plant (37.30), single fruit weight (66.05 g) and the highest yield (54.67 t ha -1 ). Regarding economic analysis, V 1 K 2 also gave the highest gross return (Tk. 1093400.00), net return (Tk. 773330.00) and BCR (3.42). So the treatment combination of V 1 K 2 may be considered as a suitable combination for growth, yield and economic return of brinjal production and this treatment combination might be recommended at farmers level for better achievement .
