Item A case report on alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in an indigenous dog(Chattogram Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Khulshi,Chattogram, 2023-11) AKTER, FARJANAA 12 years-old, male indigenous dog was presented to Shahedul Alam Qaderi Teaching Veterinary Hospital (SAQTVH) in Chattogram, Bangladesh with a large tumor on its right front leg. The histopathological findings of the tumor revealed as alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS). The tumor was surgically removed from the dog, while there had been no recurrence for five months, the patient died five months post-operatively. The cause of the death would be metastasis which could not be confirmed due to lack of follow up. A histopathological study showed poorly differentiated neoplastic mononuclear cells forming nests in an alveolar pattern. This is the first incidence of ARMS in an indigenous dog in Bangladesh. Despite the limited resources prevented myogenin staining for diagnostic confirmation, the well-contained, defined appearance of the tumor supports the diagnosis of ARMS. This report highlights the challenges in diagnosing and treating ARMS in indigenous dogs and emphasizes the need for further research and diagnostic markers to improve detection and management.Item A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON MORPHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND YIELD OF SOME MODERN RICE VARIETIES IN AMAN SEASON(DEPT. OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY, 2017) AKTER, FARJANAThe experiment was conducted in the Research Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka to observe the morphophysiological characteristics and yield of six Amanricevarieties named BRRI dhan33, BRRI dhan56, BRRI dhan57, BRRI dhan62, Hira-2 and BRRI hybrid dhan4. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The hybrid rice variety, BRRI hybrid dhan4 showed superiority in respect of growth parameters like plant height, number of tillers hill -1 , number of leaves hill -1 , leaf area hill -1 , LAI,TDM hill -1 over the other varieties. Again, BRRI hybrid dhan4 also showed the highest yield contributing characters like effective tillers hill -1 (15.04), panicle length (15.24 cm), filled grain panicle -1 (141.17), 1000-grain weight (25.16 g) grain yield (6.21 t ha ) followed by Hira-2 (6.03 t ha -1 ), straw yield (7.18 t ha -1 ), biological yield (13.39 t ha -1 ) and harvest index (46.39 %) over the other inbred varieties. The lowest grain yield produced by BRRI dhan33 (3.82 t ha -1 ). In case of grain yield BRRI dhan56 (4.36 t ha -1 ) and BRRI dhan62 (4.29 t ha -1 ) showed statistically similar result. The yield was higher in BRRI hybrid dhan4 including another hybrid Hira-2 might be due to the production of higher number of effective tiller hill , leaf number, TDM, LAI, panicle hill -1 , filled grain panicle -1 and 1000-grain weight.Item THERMOMECHANICAL PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF FLAME RETARDANT NATURAL FIBER REINFORCED EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITE FILLED WITH SILICA AEROGELS(2022-03) ZABIN, NOOSRAT; AKHI, SUBRINA; AKTER, FARJANAFor decades, composites have been a hot issue for its outstanding advantages. On the other hand, natural fibers are of high strength, heat resistance, relatively inexpensive, easy to handle, ecofriendly and ultra-efficient. Bangladesh cultivates jute, banana and pineapple in large numbers and their usable parts like pseudo stem and leaves are mostly abandoned after collecting the fruits. If we utilize them properly we can reduce the garbage which usually causes pollution, use it in our growing industry and save our environment and resources. In our project, our goal is to manufacture a hybrid composite of banana fiber, pineapple fiber, jute fiber and aerogel of different percentages in powdered form and analyze its mechanical and thermal characteristics. The natural fibers will provide the strength and stiffness to the composite and aerogel will be there as the filler material. The powdered form and short form of fibers have different impacts on the properties of composite materials, when utilized as a component of composite materials. On the other hand, fillers can improve mechanical properties including fire and smoke performance by reducing organic content in composites. In this work, combinations of banana, pineapple and jute fibers were mixed with various percentages of aerogel and epoxy resin with the help of compression method. Tensile test, flexural test, hardness test, flammability test, optical test, electrical conductivity and water absorption tests were done on the composite to analyze its properties. From the result, it was found that adding aerogel reduces heat conductivity and the fabricated composites showed comparative mechanical characteristics.
